One day after his first game for Werder Bremen since his return from Bayern Munich, Tim Borowski met with the media and offered for the first time a glimpse into his feelings since his transfer. He was in good spirits and ready for action. WERDER.DE wrote down the most important answers. Today Part 1!
Tim, how do you think the fans will respond? They said goodbye with a standing ovation but were not too happy about the transfer to Bayern Munich?
I am sure that there will be no problems. Just the opposite. My first contact with the Bremen supporters went very good. It was unbelievable how many were there in Frankfurt. They were happy, I was happy, the chemistry just fit.
You were gone just one year but the role has changed. All of a sudden you are one of the most experienced players on a very young team.
I see that positively. We have a lot of very good young players, among them reigning U21 European champions, who have a lot of quality. Teamed with the experienced players, we have a good and powerful team.
You are now wearing number six, a jersey that team captain Frank Baumann had worn a long time. Is there a bit of awe at all?
(Laughing) Actually I should have called Baumann to see if I could even take over the number. He did after all wear it for 10 years. But he would not have a problem with it. I will do everything I can to continue the successful times of this jersey. And it’s a good number for me. I wore it often as a youngster.
What expectations do you have in your role with Werder?
I would like to find my way back into the team. Werder were always known for their passing game, and I want to help that with my game. I also want to give to the young players the experience I have gathered in the league and internationally. I want to have success with the team and of course qualify for international play.
