One day before departure for Werder’s second training camp for preparations for the new season, German international Per Mertesacker returned to team training for the first time on Friday. "It went pretty well," said the satisfied 24-year-old central defender. "Of course it will take time to get back into it. Changing directions in a full sprint and real tackles with team-mates are something different than just rehab." Mertesacker suffered a torn ankle ligament during the UEFA Cup semi-final return leg against Hamburg last April and missed the end of the season for Werder.

In addition to Per Mertesacker, striker Boubacar Sanogo also returned to the Werder training grounds after being on loan to Hoffenheim last season. Missing from the pitch was newly acquired Marcelo Moreno Martins with an Achilles tendon problem while Dusko Tosic is suffering from a patella tendon injury. Both players are scheduled to take part in the second training camp in Bad Waltersdorf, Austria.

Bad Waltersdorf will be the site of the presentation of Marko Marin on Monday as the youngster begins his Werder Bremen career. Markus Rosenberg (knee) and Daniel Jensen (Achilles tendon surgery in April) however are still in rehab and will not join the team in Austria.

The following players will be on the plane to Graz Saturday at 9 a.m. heading to the training camp in Bad Waltersdorf:

Tim Wiese, Christian Vander, Sebastian Mielitz, Felix Wiedwald, Petri Pasanen, Naldo, Dusko Tosic, Jurica Vranjes, Clemens Fritz, Aaron Hunt, Said Husejinovic, Boubacar Sanogo, Torsten Frings, Hugo Almeida, Peter Niemeyer, Niklas Andersen, Per Mertesacker, Marko Futacs, José-Alex Ikeng, Martin Harnik, Marcelo Moreno, Dominik Schmidt, Philipp Bargfrede, Timo Perthel, Torsten Oehrl - Marko Marin (arrives to the team on Monday, 13 July)
