The third day of Werder's training camp at Norderney is history. While vacationers were thoroughly enjoying the merits of the island in 25 degree temperatures, Bremen players were working concentrated and intensively. But there was the occasional highlight. After the morning beach run along the White Dune, the team collective took a swim in the 22 degree North Sea.
Later in the morning, there was more hard work training on the schedule - with slalom runs, short sprints and tough work with the bungee cord. After the mid-day break, the early evening was spent going through game formations on the main pitch. And during the game at the end of the day assistant coach Matthias Hönerbach filled in at interior defence for the Green side with Sebastian Prödl having to stay at the team hotel with a cold.
"It is really very hot, so training is not really a lot of fun," admitted Torsten Frings on Sunday. "But that doesn't matter. It's an important phase for us. We are getting our strength for the first half of the season." The Brazilian Naldo added: "A little cooler would be really more comfortable. It is very demanding, and you have to watch out to drink enough." Weather forecasts say the players will have some relief coming. The coming days will see falling temperatures and even occasional rain showers.
