Aaron Hunt played 18 Bundesliga matches in 2008-09, eight in European competitions and twice on the way to the German Cup triumph in Berlin. That was not exactly the season Hunt was looking for. "Things have always been up and down for me. But last year there were more lows," said the striker. "And I hope that things go better for me next season."
Hunt debuted with Werder’s professional side when he was just 18 years old. Shortly thereafter he scored his first goal. And now at 22 years old, Hunt has played 77 Bundesliga matches and collected 13 goals. Those numbers are not bad. But how much better could they have been had Hunt not been haunted with persistent, complicated injuries? "It was becoming normal that I got injured in the preparations," he recalls. Hunt learned in his early years that it’s not enough to just hope for a good season. That has led Hunt to become more aggressive when it comes to his own body.
"I started one week before the start of our training. I was with our fitness trainer Benny Kugel in Cologne and practiced there twice. I worked to get my joints and my whole body for Norderney," said Hunt, who has big plans for the new season. "If I am fit and healthy, then I will play. I want to take the next step this season and become a regular in the starting line-up. I have planned that for myself," said the convinced and confident Hunt.
