When Klaus Allofs is asked about his team's goals, he almost always smiles and offers the same answer. And that did not change Thursday afternoon. "We would rather win all our games!" laughed the Werder Bremen manager, who then admitted that would be difficult. "There are more and more teams fighting for the top spots. It will not be easy. But we want to be up near the top and do everything we can and call up our best effort," said head coach Thomas Schaaf.
Schaaf: "We want to return to Berlin on 15 May 2010!"
But they will need one thing for certain to do that. "The most important thing is for us to have better and more consistent performances in the Bundesliga. That's the only way we can reach our goal of getting a much better finish," said Schaaf. Another major goal for Werder is defending their German Cup title. "We want to return to Berlin on 15 May 2010 and win the title again," added Schaaf.
The coach also hopes his team can make some noise in the new Europa League as well. "Of course we expect of ourselves that we will qualify for the group stage," said Schaaf. Both Allofs and Schaaf agreed that the team's exact goals for all competitions would be defined later - when the most important thing has been achieved: consistency.
