The German U21 national team fulfilled their dream by beating England 4-0 to capture the 2009 European Championship title in Malmö. Both Bremen players Sebastian Boenisch and Mesut Özil were in the starting line-up and played a major role in giving Germany their first U21 crown. Leftback Boenisch was excellent against Arsenal star Theo Walcott and James Milner from Aston Villa. And Özil was the most offensive force on the pitch, setting up two goals and scoring on a free kick to win Man of the Match honours.
First off, Özil sent a dream pass to Gonzalo Castro in the 23rd minute to make it 1-0 for the Germans. Özil then scored on a 25-yard free kick in the 48th minute for a 2-0 advantage. Twelve minutes from time, Özil fed Sandro Wagner, who decided the game for good with the 3-0 goal. And Wagner struck again with six minutes to play for the final 4-0 scoreline. And German won the title - thanks to strong showings by Bremen players Boenisch and Özil.
