Werder Bremen's German U21 international Sebastian Boenisch returned to Germany's practice on Sunday after his strained ligament. But the Werder defender has only been able to complete running drills. But after further treatment, the 22-year-old can return to team training on Wednesday and could possibly play in the semi-final against Italy on Friday, 26 June 2009 (8:45 p.m. live on German channel ZDF). "Of course I hope that I can play on Friday," said Boenisch.
When asked about the just completed transfer of U21 team-mate Marko Marin to Werder Bremen, Boenisch said he was very satisfied. "Looking at his character, Marko is a super guy. And looking at the football side, of course we don't need to say much. We all know that he can do quite a bit. With the U21s, we have had relatively a lot of contact. I don't know him really good yet, but what I can say for sure is that he is a nice guy. I am happy that he is coming to Bremen," said the Werder left back.
Boenisch's team-mate Mesut Özil also made a statement about Marin from the German U21 national team headquarters in Lerum near Gothenburg. "Marko is very easy going, a super player. We know what he can do and how important he is also for the U21 team. And we are definitely happy that he is coming to Bremen. His technical abilities fit very well with our team. I think that we will have a lot of fun with him," said Özil.
