Werder Bremen have extended by one year their contract with Kevin Schindler until 30 June 2012 and will loan out the player to Augsburg for the 2009-10 season.
"It was important for us to give Kevin a sign that we believe in his qualities. We agree with him that another season of playing in the second division can continue his development to possibly take the next step the following season and break through with us," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs.
Kevin Schindler was looking forward to the future possibilities. "That I was able to extend my deal here in Bremen is very good news for me. I will absolutely give 100 percent in Augsburg to come back the next season strengthened and hopefully fight for a spot with Werder. Bremen is my home and it would really be big for me to reach this long-term goal," said Schindler.
Last season, Schindler appeared in 32 second division games for Hansa Rostock and scored five goals. Before that, he played in five Bundesliga matches and three UEFA Cup games. He also has earned seven caps for the German U21 national team.
