Werder took off for Berlin Friday morning for the final season highlight full of excitement and energy reserves. The German Cup final is a game which head coach Thomas Schaaf’s team is really looking forward to with loads of passion. "Not everyone reaches this final. It is something special. I emphatically spoke to everyone about it. It will be something that none of the players will forget too soon. People are bound to get goose bumps," said Schaaf before the game, which will be his eighth German Cup final as a player or coach.
It’s no wonder that Schaaf will be firing on two players especially, who will in all likelihood play their final German Cup final – Diego and Frank Baumann. "I really don’t have to tell them too much ahead of time. They will both give everything they have. Both could finish off their time here with a fantastic achievement. The one can take this feeling on his way to Turin while the other could finish his excellent career with a title. I would really wish it upon Frank Baumann, a fantastic footballer and fantastic person, to hoist a cup into the heavens one more time," Schaaf said.
Despite the praising words from the coach, the Werder captain remained calm and relaxed. "It really doesn’t mean anything special for me ahead of this final. I will concentrate fully on this game and would like to win the title. Then I will have more time to think about everything and bring back the memories," said Baumann, who like his coach knows how importance this match is for everyone involved. "The nerves will play a role. As a player, you know that you have only one more game. You can’t even things out later. You have to decide things now. You cannot make any mistakes. You have to find the necessary mix of tension and looseness," added Baumann.
