Werder Bremen midfielder Diego will transfer this summer to Juventus Turin. The 24-year-old put his signature on the final paperwork Tuesday afternoon in Turin to finalise the move to the Italian club. Manager Klaus Allofs confirmed the transfer at a press conference Tuesday. Werder Bremen will receive a transfer fee of 24.5 million euros, which could reach 27 million euros in the next three years with bonus payments. "The bonus payments are attached to goals for Juventus Turin, which we believe are very probable," said Allofs.
"This is not a happy moment for us because an excellent player is leaving us whose performance had a big impact on us for the past three years. Diego was a cast of fortune for us," said Allofs. "It is the biggest transfer from which Werder have ever profited. And I am optimistic that we will have a strong team again next year."
Diego said: "It was three very positive years in Bremen. Werder grew into my heart. I like Bremen and I like the German fans. Looking back, I remember so many positive things. And it will be difficult for me to leave here. But it's like that for a football player. New challenges come and a new home." Diego's last game in Werder dress will come on 30 May in the German Cup final in Berlin against Bayer Leverkusen.
