It has become a normal scene now that the final training game is not 11 against 11 but nine against nine. Today missing on the training grounds were long-time injured Daniel Jensen, as well as Per Mertesacker (torn ligament), Naldo (torn muscle fibre in adductors) and Claudio Pizarro (bruised foot). But Markus Rosenberg having his name on the injury list is a new one. "In the Frankfurt game he got hit in the ankle. He cannot really run, much less make quick movements," said head coach Thomas Schaaf after the final training on Friday. And the coach is slowly running out of alternatives in the attack.
"Claudio received a knock on his foot which everyone could see," said Schaaf. There is no new news about Naldo – just having to wait for the weekend. But things are better for Diego. Schaaf is assuming that Werder’s midfield ace will be available. "I always want to play and I am fit," said the 24-year-old Brazilian. Offensive all-arounder Aaron Hunt was able to return to team training. But an appearance on Saturday would be too early after he missed a number of weeks.
The following 16 players are on the game squad for the final home game of the season: Wiese, Vander, Boenisch, Pasanen, Tosic, Baumann, Vranjes, Fritz, Diego, Özil, Prödl, Tziolis, Frings, Almeida, Niemeyer, Harnik
