It’s the furthest road trip of the year but Werder can still rely on tremendous support from their football fans. Some 5,000 Green-White supporters will make the pilgrimage to Sükrü Saraçoglu stadium next week to cheer Werder on to victory. Every Werder fan who ordered a ticket for the final will also receive their tickets. "That is quite a lot when you consider that game will actually be played in Asia," said manager Klaus Allofs, who added that Werder fans also have in mind the German DFB Cup final 10 days later. Werder have received 80,000 ticket orders for the cup final in Berlin.
Besides their own travelling fans, Werder are also hoping for the support of numerous Turkish football fans. The fact that the Green-Whites regularly hold their winter training camp in Turkey could be an advantage in gaining the Turkish fans’ hearts. In addition, Bremen have in their midfield Mesut Özil, who has Turkish family roots. "Of course the location is something special for me. I still have a lot of relatives living there. We’ll have to see how many tickets I can get together. But I can tell by the interview requests that I am the only ’Turk’ in the final," said the 20-year-old.
