The control committee of the German Football Federation (DFB) will begin preliminary proceedings against Werder Bremen's Tim Wiese. The goalkeeper celebrated with fans directly after Sunday evening's Bundesliga match against Hamburg but used a megaphone to call out unsportsmanlike remarks about Hamburg.
A day to reflect on the incident, the keeper said: "I am really sorry. I will certainly not do something like that again. But I got caught up in the euphoric atmosphere in the fan section. I was told what words to say and I just barked them into the microphone. That was not correct."
Manager Klaus Allofs reacted with clear words to incident. "That is not the fair play that Werder Bremen stand for. It was certainly not meant maliciously. But something like that cannot happen. Our relationship with Hamburg is based on respect, and it will remain that way," said Allofs.
The committee will contact Tim Wiese in writing and request a timely statement to the incident. After receiving and evaluating the statement, a decision will be made about the continuation of the proceedings.
