Werder went to Hamburg and reached two finals after fantastic nights of football! Why should the Bundesliga game on Sunday 10 May 2009 against Hamburg in Weser-Stadium still be interesting?
There are some very good arguments that the fourth North Derby within the last two and a half weeks will be a thrilling one:
"Things are always spectacular with us," was the first reason given by Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf. "There are no games where you sit in the recliner and fall asleep." The coach gladly points to the games against Bochum and in Leverkusen in which Werder trailed but fought themselves back into the game - despite injuries and extra international matches. Still, Schaaf admits that while the cup competitions have been a crowning success, things in the Bundesliga have been much worse all season. "We gave up quite a few things that were not necessary," said an aggravated Schaaf.
The Bundesliga is still exciting. "The points in the league are important for us! And for the fans, every goal and every point against Hamburg means a lot," explained Schaaf. In addition, Hamburg are under pressure. With 55 points, Hamburg are sixth in the Bundesliga standings and everything is possible. It's only five points to the top but every loss endangers the club's chances of missing out on the UEFA Europa League. Hamburg will give everything they have at Weser-Stadium - but Werder will as well!
If those aren't good enough arguments for a terrific fourth derby ...
