What looked likely on Monday is now a certainty - Aaron Hunt will miss the first of four derbies against Hamburg. The offensive all-arounder rolled his ankle in the match against Hertha Berlin and will miss the game in Hamburg just like defender Petri Pasanen.
Head coach Thomas Schaaf said the Finn Pasanen was struck on his toe. "The toe nail came off and Petri will be out," said Schaaf. Aaron Hunt missed Monday's first training after the Bundesliga game in Berlin and will miss the Hamburg match with an injury to the frontal ankle ligament. Schaaf could not yet say for certain how long the 22-year-old Hunt would miss.
There was better news about the recently banged up Mesut Özil, Sebastian Boenisch and Diego. All three are included on the player's list and can play on Wednesday. "I am 100 percent fit. I practiced yesterday and am really prepared for the game tomorrow," said Diego. When asked about the first semi-final derby, Diego added: "Regardless of who we are playing, we are very motivated and will try to reach our goals. One of them is to reach the final and I am very optimistic that we can do it."
The following 18 players are on the player's list for the Cup game in Hamburg: Wiese, Vander – Boenisch, Naldo, Tosic, Fritz, Prödl, Mertesacker - Baumann, Vranjes, Diego, Özil, Tziolis, Frings, Niemeyer - Rosenberg, Almeida, Pizarro
