Claudio Pizarro has won his court battle against the Peruvian Football Association (PFP) in front of the international Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The judges ruled that the Werder striker had not partaken in a drinking binge which included women following an international match against Brazil on 18 November 2007. The CAS also repealed the 10,000 dollar fine Pizarro was levied by the PFP.
Claudio Pizarro had spoken out directly after the accusations and asked for the court proceedings. And he gladly accepted the news about the ruling from his lawyer Thursday afternoon. "I am very satisfied and feel validated. Now my honour has been restored. My family and friends always supported me and knew that these were all just lies told about me. But this ruling will show everyone who doubted me that I always told the truth," said Pizarro.
The decision is not expected to impact Pizarro's current stance against playing for the Peruvian national team. "I would gladly play for my country. But under the current management - this federation president and national team coach - that will not be possible. My trust in them has been destroyed. My coach always knew that I was not there but he did not support me," said the 30-year-old Pizarro.
