A season record cannot get any more balanced. After nine victories and nice losses, the Green-Whites bagged their ninth draw of the season in Leverkusen. But after splitting the spoils, they were not dissatisfied with the result.

"We could not really assume that we would come here and just brush aside Leverkusen. Sure, we could have won. But we can be happy about playing a good game. All told, it was a fair draw. Bayer had a bit more run of play and went ahead with a long blast. But we had the better chances. We hit the post twice and (Per) Merte(sacker) also had the ball three yards out but could not beat the keeper," said Torsten Frings after the game.

"Besides, you have to consider that Leverkusen had a whole week off and we played a really tough game on Thursday. Especially in those kinds of situations, we have to play clever and not always just push forward. We played a bit more patiently and that was good," added the German international midfielder.

Per Mertesacker shared his team-mate's assessment. "The 1-1 draw was fair. It was a very intense and interesting game with a lot of chances. Both teams were especially dangerous in their dead-ball situations," said Mertesacker. Goalkeeper Tim Wiese was certain that the 8,000 Bremen fans did not regret coming to Düsseldorf to support the team. "The result is okay. You could see how hard the team played. After falling behind we got back into the game and also had a few chances for the victory. I heard that 8,000 fans travelled here from Bremen. They really were a great support. It was like a home match. But I think the team did its part that they had some fun as well," said Wiese.
