Werder playmaker Diego will miss the team's Bundesliga match at Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday, 12 April 2009 due to a thigh muscle problem. "This is not a precautionary measure," said head coach Thomas Schaaf after Saturday's final training. The coach emphasised that he does not believe in a rotation principle and is not resting Diego. "My opinion (of rotating) is known, and nothing has changed," the coach stressed. "It's too bad. Diego is really playing great right now, and of course he will be missed," said team-mate Torsten Frings.
There is good news, however, about Markus Rosenberg, who missed the Udinese Calcio UEFA Cup match and Friday's training with a stomach issue. "I had stomach pain for about three days. But I'm okay now and can play again," said Werder's third-top scorer in the Bundesliga this season.
Frings stressed that the Green-Whites are determined to come up with a better result in Düsseldorf than the 2-0 home loss against Leverkusen in the first half. "I've already said that we don't want to give anything away in the Bundesliga. It does matter to us if we finish 10th or seventh. It's about our fans, who spend a lot of money for Werder Bremen to follow us on the road or on television," said Frings.
The following 18 players are making the trip to Düsseldorf for the away match against Bayer Levekusen: Wiese, Vander - Boenisch, Pasanen, Naldo, Fritz, Prödl, Mertesacker - Baumann, Vranjes, Özil, Hunt, Tziolis, Frings, Niemeyer - Rosenberg, Almeida, Pizarro
