Werder Bremen fans yelled chants against Hannover keeper Robert Enke while also calling out "Wiese for Germany!", throwing their support behind their favourite for the position as German national team goalkeeper. The reaction of Bremen fans at Weser-Stadion showed clearly that the battle between Germany's two best keepers is a hot topic among spectators.
Tim Wiese, however, said he was not at all impacted by the chants of the fans and wanted nothing to do with talk of a goalkeeper battle in the derby against Hannover. "Even if some people saw it that way today, I never think about who is in the other goal. I concentrate on my own performance. I always want to offer my best. Of course I would have rather have played in the last two German national team games," said the Werder keeper.
Where there is no battle, there is also no winner! And that's how Tim Wiese saw things, toning down the chants of the Green-White supporters. "Of course, every goalkeeper would be bitter about giving up four goals. But comparing keepers in a game like this doesn't help at all. There was quite a bit of bad luck with those four goals. And on the other side, I hardly had anything to do."
Robert Enke helped his situation a bit by stopping a penalty attempt. But that was hardly a consolation for the German national team keeper. "We didn't really watch out in the situation building up to the 2-1 goal. But you can't accept giving up four more goals," said an aggravated Enke. The keeper did not want to talk about his sense of mind. "I talk about my inner life with my wife and not openly in public," said the Hannover keeper.
