The qualification for the 2010 World Cup South Africa heads into the next round of games. And 10 Werder players have been nominated for their national teams and will be travelling with them this week...

The qualification for the 2010 World Cup South Africa heads into the next round of games. And 10 Werder players have been nominated for their national teams and will be travelling with them this week. Per Mertesacker and Tim Wiese will be playing for Germany in their Group 4 qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Wales. Torsten Frings was also nominated for the international action but had to turn down the invitation due to injury.

 

Germany's Group 4 opponent Finland have just one qualifier on the bill as the Finns face Wales in Cardiff on Saturday 28 March 2009 with Werder defender Petri Pasanen in the line-up. In Group 1 on the same day, Werder striker Hugo Almeida and Portugal will take on Sweden, who will be without the nominated but injured Bremen striker Markus Rosenberg. Denmark and Daniel Jensen will play Malta on 28 March 2009 while Alexandros Tziolis and Greece hook horns with Israel, and Sebastian Prödl hopes to lead Austria to a win over Romania.

 

There are also two home games for the German U21 team during the week. Sebastian Boenisch, Mesut Özil and company will take on the Netherlands U21 team in Ahlen on 27 March 2009 after they play Belarus on 21 March 2009 in Paderborn. In addition, Marko Futacs, who scored twice on the weekend for Werder's U19 team, will play for the U19 Hungarian team against Slovenia.
