As Werder Bremen made their way Friday afternoon for Bremen train station to travel to Dortmund there were three Green-Whites staying at home injured. “We will have to play against Dortmund without Frank Baumann, Markus Rosenberg and Torsten Frings,“ said head coach Thomas Schaaf. “Frank has problems with his adductors while Rosi is fighting a muscular problem. And Torsten has problems with his ankle,“ said the coach.

"I suffered a slight tear after half-time on Sunday in the game against VfB Stuttgart and had to be substituted out. It has gotten better in the last few days and I had hopes of making it. I had one more test but the game comes a couple days too early for me,“ said Frank Baumann, who missed the game Wednesday against AS Saint-Etienne due to suspension.

The Brazilian defender Naldo will be serving the final game of his suspension on Saturday for his red card in the game against Bayern Munich. Daniel Jensen, Clemens Fritz and Petri Pasanen meanwhile were able to return to team training and will be available for the game. “I practiced with a mask and it worked. At the beginning it was very uncomfortable, but it doesn’t bother me any more. I am happy to be at the game,“ said Daniel Jensen, who suffered a broken nose in the first leg against Saint-Etienne.

The following 18 players will be in the Ruhr region for Werder: Wiese, Vander – Boenisch, Pasanen, Tosic, Vranjes, Fritz, Diego, Özil, Hunt, Prödl, Tziolis, Jensen, Almeida, Pizarro, Niemeyer, Mertesacker, Harnik
