German international defender Per Mertesacker took part in a campaign called "Don't drink too much - stay gold" at a Bremen school Monday afternoon. The goal of the event was to inform schoolchildren about the campaign against alcohol abuse and so-called "coma boozing" among youngsters.

"Right from the start, I was convinced about this campaign. Every youngster is tempted to consume alcohol. That's why I think it's so important to explicitly describe the consequences of excessive alcohol consumption," said Mertesacker, the campaign's champion. "In my youth, I resisted the temptation because I never lost sight of what I was working for and I knew that the next day would be very important for my future. I hope that my support can limit this 'coma boozing'."
