Werder Bremen collected one point at the Rhein-Neckar Arena in Sinsheim, but the draw only helped the Green-Whites jump one spot from 11th to 10th in the Bundesliga standings. And this fact meant very little to anyone at Werder. "This point really doesn't help too much our goal of moving up the table. We are running in place, but at least the game wasn't a step back," said manager Klaus Allofs.
But Allofs remained confident. "Getting a point here and there does not help. But we have to keep going. You see from other results what can happen if you put together a streak of wins. We don't want to blame ourselves for not believing. We will continue to give the Bundesliga our top attention. I am convinced that this team has the potential."
The players agreed with the manager. "The draw means exactly one point. Even before today's game we had collected too few points. The four games in the past 10 days were altogether orderly. We just have to keep going," said Petri Pasanen, who also warned about only looking at the cup competitions. "We still have to concentrate on the league as well. We can't just turn off between the cup games. If you don't stay concentrated, then it will all go wrong."
