What a German DFB Cup quarter-final! Werder scored five goals in winning while top contenders Bayern Munich and Schalke were eliminated. The competition will continue without the record cup champions, making it that much more attractive for all Werder fans. And the draw on Saturday night will be all the more exciting.
Will Werder face off in the semi-final on Tuesday or Wednesday, 21 or 22 April 2009 against the heavy underdogs and Schalke beaters Mainz? Or will they be drawn against either of the other top Bundesliga clubs Hamburg or Bayer Leverkusen? Will Frings, Diego and company have to go on the road yet again or will they battle at home for the ticket to the final on Saturday, 30 May 2009 in Berlin's Olympic Stadium?
Manager Klaus Allofs had a clear preference regarding the last question, saying: "I just wish we could have a cup game again at Weser Stadion. I can only vaguely recall the last game from 2007." But one thing is clear, there will be no easy opponent in the round of the final four.
