Two days ahead of the important Bundesliga game against Borussia Mönchengladbach, defensive stalwart Per Mertesacker is questionable. The German international got injured during Germany's friendly against Norway and was substituted out at half-time. "He suffered a bruised foot which is keeping him out of team training. We just have to see day-to-day how it develops," said head coach Thomas Schaaf after Thursday afternoon's training session.
Daniel Jensen was also injured while playing in a friendly for Denmark. He also missed training on Thursday and is questionable for Saturday. Another worry is playmaker Diego, who had to leave training early. "He took a hard hit," confirmed Schaaf. But the Brazilian said after training there is no need to worry and that all signs show the injury is not serious. Diego however is ineligible to play on Saturday because of a suspension.
The head coach does have some good news about Saturday's game as top striker Claudio Pizarro can play after serving his suspension. "We know about Claudio's qualities. We really missed him in the last couple games. We all realise how important he is for us. We hope that he can play to his full potential against Gladbach. But the team will have to create opportunities for him and force the opponents into mistakes with which he can take advantage of his quality," said Schaaf.
