Mesut Özil has not only received his first nomination to the German national team for the game against Norway on Wednesday, 11 February 2009 at 8:30 p.m. in the Düsseldorf LTU-Arena. But he also can expect to play. Assistant coach Hans-Dieter Flick told a German Football Federation press conference Monday afternoon that the 20-year-old will likely play.
"We invited Mesut Özil and Andreas Beck to see how they present themselves within the team. It is planned to let both players play and prove themselves in the game," said Flick. The assistant coach did not, however, say if either player would start the match. "Just like for any match, we also have a starting line-up in mind for this game. But I cannot yet say if either will be starting."
Besides Özil, Bremen players Tim Wiese, Torsten Frings and Per Mertesacker are also nominated for the German friendly.
