The second half of the Bundesliga is already two weeks old, and the 2009 international calendar opens today. Ten Werder players from seven nations are travelling with their national teams for friendly matches on Wednesday, 11 February 2009.
Four Werder players - goalkeeper Tim Wiese, Per Mertesacker, Torsten Frings and Mesut Özil - were nominated by the German national team boss Joachim Löw for Germany's showdown against Norway in Düsseldorf's LTU-Arena.
And there will be three matches in which Bremen team-mates will be facing off: Portugal vs. Finland (Hugo Almeida against Petri Pasanen), Austria vs. Sweden (Sebastian Prödl against Markus Rosenberg), and Greece vs. Denmark (winter acquisition Alexandros Tziolis against Daniel Jensen).
