After returning from Schalke, the Werder players were back on the training grounds Sunday morning or completing their individual regeneration or rehab workouts. The coaching staff spent more than an hour bringing to a sweat those players who were suspended, did not play or only played for a short time. The preparations for the next Bundesliga match next Saturday against Borussia Mönchengladbach have already begun in earnest for Diego, Pizarro, Harnik and company.
"We showed them before their own eyes what didn't work. We will continue to work on finally getting the results we need to have success," said head coach Thomas Schaaf. Striker Hugo Almeida offered his own personal analysis: "I hate losing and of course even more when we control the match. Everything happened so fast with the free kick and I just wasn't there. But life goes on and football as well. We just all have to get past these tough times. And I am convinced that it will get better," said the Portuguese striker.
Besides those international players travelling to their respective national teams on Monday and Tuesday, Peter Niemeyer will also miss Bremen's training. The midfielder missed last week with a cold and is sick again. "He suffered a minor setback," said Thomas Schaaf.
