A flu bug is going around at Werder. Whenever one player recovers from a sickness or an injury and returns to team training, another player seems gets hit with something. Frank Baumann, Diego and Petri Pasanen all came back to training on Thursday afternoon. But head coach Thomas Schaaf is now missing two other players. "Peter Niemeyer is out because of a cold, and Niklas Andersen could not take part in training because of a problem with his Achilles tendon," said Schaaf.
"This is nothing new for me," said the head coach matter-of-factly. "We have been going through this for years now. Some times it is pretty extreme, other times it's not so bad. The problem is that you have to watch out about not passing it around once it's in the team. You have to avoid contact a bit. Of course that can be very difficult. But I hope that we can limit it this year."
Still out on Thursday afternoon was also Claudio Pizarro. The Peruvian has problems with his calf and was limited to individual training in the weight room.
