Unusual conditions call for unusual measures. And that was the case for Werder's training on Thursday afternoon. With the training grounds frozen, the Green-Whites practiced in their home stadium. "We have to give everyone our best opportunities to come out of the winter break well prepared," said head coach Thomas Schaaf. "There is grass heating in the stadium so the conditions are very good."
Once again on Thursday, a number of players were not available for practice. Naldo remained out due to his injury between the calf and Achilles tendon. Petri Pasanen injured an interior ligament in his knee during training and will only be able to take part in running drills. Sebastian Prödl is also restricted to running drills as he goes through rehabilitating. And Aaron Hunt will miss quite some time still. On Friday the coach is expecting the return of Clemens Fritz, who was taking part in light running drills after a flu.
Daniel Jensen meanwhile was able to practice with the team for the first time following an injury to his adductors. "Of course you can tell I haven't trained with the team for a long time. But I don't have any pain. Now I just need to regularly practice again," said the Dane. "But I still have to be careful."
