Martin Harnik made his return to the Werder professional team training on Monday morning. "It was great to finally be back on the pitch with the team again," said the 21-year-old Harnik. "My foot held up but I still have a lot of making up concerning conditioning. But I survived the practice session pretty well," joked the Austrian national team player, who is still playing with his foot taped after a ligament injury. "That isn't affecting me at all. My head is free."

Three other injured Green-Whites - Daniel Jensen, Christian Vander and Sebastian Prödl - are all making progress on returning from their injuries after missing the team's training camp. "I am much better already. The burden is being increased day by day in training. Today I was able to do just about everything, even shooting. Just the short, quick movements still hurt a bit," said Jensen. "The groin is a lot better. But I still sense some pain in the pelvis. Still, I am improving every day and am on a good path. My goal is to practice with the team again on Friday."

Goalkeeper Christian Vander completed another individual training today but for the first time he took keeper drills. "I felt good and am optimistic that I can get back to team training soon if the foot doesn't have any negative reactions to today's practice. Altogether, it looks good and I am on schedule," said the 28-year-old. "Hopefully I am back for the start of competitive matches."

Defender Sebastian Prödl, however, will need a bit longer. Also not in training on Monday morning were Petri Pasanen and Naldo. "Both of them will still be out," said head coach Thomas Schaaf. "Petri had a minor infection and noticed something again. And Naldo still is having problems between the calf and Achilles tendon. Both players will not be available for the game tomorrow against Lech Posen."
