When a training camp day comes to an end, a little bit of distraction does a lot of good. The players for example sometimes head directly from the dining hall to the game centre. Table tennis has been the latest rage and an ever-slimmer Tim Wiese has been showing his prowess. There is hardly a ball which gets past his racket.

 

For those looking for a change of pace and wanting to talk football with someone not with our team, there is that opportunity as well. Dale Mitchell came down to Calista. I have to admit that I had never heard of his name either. That is partially because Canadian football is not really that big in focus. Dale is Canada's national team coach. It's even colder there than in Germany and the football is currently at rest. So he is using the time to come to Belek and watch a number of teams and test matches while gathering some new insights.

 

The training program for Monday morning gave us an especially useful lesson. The whole team was on the pitch and practice was continuously interrupted for corrections and pointers, which were then implemented as the whole thing started again. The drill had to do with order on the pitch, how ideally one cog (player) works into the next to create pressure to win the ball as quick as possible and switch into offence. Tactical work, continually different tackling situations as well as individual work with every player. The training staff has been giving the players a lot of stimuli the past couple days, working very targeted and highly concentrated. There are after all some pretty lofty goals ...
