A training camp is extremely exhausting for a player. And it does good when the coach really praises one. During Sunday's afternoon training session, Peter Niemeyer really let one fly. From about 25 meters out he blasted a shot wonderfully between the posts, unleashing bursts of joy. The journalists and I looked at each other and were just about to praise the hammer shot when Thomas Schaaf came over to us and said in his own special way: "That wasn't too bad."

Things are moving along. And yesterday it was pretty intensive. Luckily we only have one missing player to worry about. Naldo is having difficulties between the calf and Achilles tendon and is taking a break. The rest of the team however has dealt with the workload so far. Even Clemens Fritz, who admitted to media representatives that he really longed for this training camp. He is definitely an exception though. Most professionals are less enthusiastic because of the major workload.

Sunday morning started with rain showers but turned sunny later. And that made it easier to deal with the fresh wind. I used a free afternoon hour to visit the beach and met some old friends from the football family. Some Karlsruhe players showed up with their coach "Ede" Becker. The Karlsruhe team is headquartered together with Bayer Leverkusen in the hotel next door.
