Greek national team player Alexandros Tziolis of Champions League club Panathinaikos Athens is just about ready to transfer to Werder Bremen, manager Klaus Allofs confirmed Wednesday evening. The 23-year-old midfielder will be on loan to Bremen until the end of the season after which Werder Bremen has a buyout option. "We have agreed with both Panathinaikos and the player about the details of the contract. Therefore we assume the remaining steps are just formalities," said Allofs, who expects the completion of the transfer on Thursday. Tziolis will then be examined by physicians in Bremen and is expected to travel to the team's training camp on Friday.
Tziolis, who speaks German well, already arrived in his new home Wednesday evening. The Greek player, who was last in Bremen in November and scored a goal in Panathinaikos's 3-0 Champions League victory over Werder, landed somewhat delayed at Bremen's airport, where he was received by his agent.
"This is a transfer where everything went really quickly. I am really happy to take on these duties here. Werder is a big club and has a great team. The Bundesliga is very strong. There are a lot of good player and many good teams. I can really continue to develop myself here. And I really want to come out on top here. With this transfer, a dream has come true," the Greek said in a WERDER.TV interview.
