Head coach Thomas Schaaf is ready for anything. After the major injury concerns over the past couple years, he has a somewhat queasy feeling going into the preparations for the second half. At Monday morning's lactate test, 26 players took part including Regional League players Marc Heider, Timo Perthel, Kevin Artmann, Niklas Andersen, Nico Pellatz and Sebastian Mielitz as well as newly acquired U23 player Jose-Alex Ikeng. Those seven players also have very good chances of travelling with the professional squad on Thursday to the team's training camp in Belek, Turkey. But there are a couple of strong candidates as names to be crossed off the list for the trip to the Turkish Riviera.

Austrians Sebastian Prödl (torn ligament and cold) and Martin Harnik (torn ligament and bone oedema) both will not be accompanying the team. Neither will Aaron Hunt, who again has problems with his patella tendon. "It really doesn't make any sense to take those three with. They can work on their programs better in Bremen," said Schaaf, who also has other question marks about the list of passengers for Turkey. "We have gotten some positive signals regarding Hugo Almeida that it may be okay. But we just have to wait now on how he takes today's strain." The Portuguese striker suffered an injured vertebral process just before the winter break.

Daniel Jensen also appears unable to make the trip southwards. "He did run for the lactate test but he still is having adductor problems. The rest over the holidays unfortunately was not enough. He will likely not be going with," said Thomas Schaaf. The head coach meanwhile gave better chances for Petri Pasanen, who was unable to take part on Monday due to gastrointestinal problems. "That will surely be something which clears itself up by Thursday." Schaaf just hopes that the personnel problems do not get any worse. "Of course we always hope that nothing happens, especially since we're moving into full workouts in the next couple of days."
