Werder Bremen can proudly announce the first acquisition of the winter break. José-Alex Ikeng, whose contract with VfB Stuttgart was voided in mid-December, transferred to the Weser region on Tuesday, agreeing with Bremen on a contract until the end of the current season. The 20-year-old will accompany the professional side to their training camp in Belek later in January and hopes to prove himself with good showings for Werder's U23 team in the third division.
"José-Alex Ikeng is a very interesting player, he plays very strong and is technically well educated. I am happy that he decided for Werder and I am sure we can use his qualities very well by us," said U23 coach Thomas Wolter about the new acquisition.
The German-Cameroonian found his way into the VfB Stuttgart youth system in 2003 and celebrated in 2004 the German B-Junior championship with the club. The former U18 junior national team member has appeared in 14 games in the third division this season after returning in May 2008 from a 20-month injury break following two ACL tears. The 1.88m midfielder has also played in 13 games in the Regional League South.
