The first half of the 2008/2009 season came to an end for Werder Bremen after the 17th match day in the Bundesliga. In the league table, the Green-Whites will spend the winter break in seventh place, but there are a number of statistical valuations that trainer Thomas Schaaf’s men spearhead.

In seventeen Bundesliga games, Werder players played a total of 7,869 passes, more than any other side in Germany’s top flight.

At home in the Weser Stadium, the Green-Whites were on target more often than any other team in the Bundesliga on their home turf. Schaaf’s men scored 27 goals in front of their home fans.

Werder also managed to score five goals in one game more often than any other team. The Green-Whites pull off that particular achievement on a total of four occasions, whilst Bayer Leverkusen, 1899 Hoffenheim and Hannover 96 managed that feat once each.

Additionally, with just 28 in all, Werder players saw less yellow cards than any of their league competitors. On a less positive note, Werder players saw three direct red cards – more than any other top flight club. Those cards do not include the incident which cost Diego a belated suspension.
