Whilst the first of the Werder players have already begun a well earned break, Sebastian Prödl has started the process of making the quickest possible return to the Bremen squad. On the consultation of club doctor, Dr. Götz Dimanski, the Austrian international began therapy on his ankle injury in his home town of Graz. Prödl had just incurred the injury a mere 48 hours before the rehabilitation process was started.

It all took place in the 81st minute of the final Bundesliga game in the first half of the season, with Werder Bremen playing host to VfL Wolfsburg. The Werder players were within touching distance of their well deserved Christmas holiday as Sebatian Prödl crumbled under a challenge and left the field of play having apparently suffered an outer ligament and a capsule tear to his ankle: “I underwent further examination on Saturday evening in Bremen and then on Sunday in Graz, which confirmed the initial diagnosis that the outer right ankle ligament was torn and there was damage to the capsule,” explained the Austrian.

The lofty central defender put on a brave face though: “At the first moment I thought, this just can’t be real, to pick up an injury so close to the end of the game and also so close to the winter break, but there are no good times to get injured,” commented the Austrian international, and he continued: “It will take somewhere between three and five weeks before I can begin training again. I have already added to my Christmas wish list that I want to be able to put my full weight on my leg for the beginning of training on January 5th.
