On Sunday, 14.12.2008, there will be no training session. Following the 2-1 win over VfL Wolfsburg on the final match day in the first half of the season, the Werder players can head into the winter break with their heads held high. By way of wishing all the fans, in the stadium and in front of their televisions at home, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, the players bore the ‘Werder Christmas Tree’ logo on their shirts. The specially designed emblem has become a traditional fixture on the final match day before the winter break – and since they start sporting the festive club crest, they are still unbeaten in the pre-Christmas tie.
The Green-Whites record with the ‘Werder Christmas Tree’:
- In the 2002/2003 season, on 14.12.2008 Werder beat Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0.
- The following season, 2003/2004, on 16.12.2008 the Green-Whites beat Hansa Rostock 3-0.
- On 11.12.2004, trainer Thomas Schaaf’s men drew 1-1 with FC Kaiserslautern on the final match day before the winter break 2004/2005
- There was another 1-1 draw for Werder in the north German derby against HSV on 18.12.2005.
