Werder Bremen’s 2-1 win over Inter Milan, on Tuesday, 09.12.2008, secured the Green-Whites a place in the round of the last 32 sides in the UEFA Cup. WERDER.DE has put together all the important information on the clubs progression to the UEFA Cup for eager fans.

- Werder’s opponents in the round of the last 32 clubs will be drawn on Friday, 19.12.2008. Due to organisational reasons and the restrictive time frame, as well as one extra round in comparison to the Champions League, the draw will also be made for the round of the last 16 teams at the same time.

- The first games in the round of the last 32, including Werder’s first outing in this season’s UEFA Cup competition, will be played on February 18th and 19th 2009. The return leg is set for a week later on 26.02.2009.

- Torsten Frings will not be available for the next game in the UEFA Cup. The German international picked up his fifth yellow card in the game against Inter Milan and, having already served a suspension for picking up three cards in the current competition, which led to him having to sit out the tie against Athens, Frings will serve a further ban for Werder’s first UEFA Cup clash.

- In the round of the last 32 clubs, the Green-Whites will be pitted against one of the second placed teams from the UEFA Cup group phase, but they will most definitely not be drawn against another German representative at this stage. A German opponent could possibly await Werder should they progress to the next round.

- This season’s UEFA Cup final will take place on Wednesday, 20.05.2008 at the ‘Sükrü- Saracoðlu-Stadium’ in Istanbul.
