The German internationals Tim Wiese and Torsten Frings returned to full team training with their Werder Bremen team mates on Thursday afternoon and, much to pleasure of trainer Thomas Schaaf, both are expected to be fit for selection for the game against Karlsruhe SC on Saturday. Per Mertesacker, on the other hand, was unable to re-join his colleagues and went through an individual programme.
A decision will be made on Friday as to whether or not the lofty central defender will be up to playing a role: “I will train with the rest of the team again for the final pre-match session and hope then to get the all clear to play against KSC. It’s certainly looking good.”
Naldo, Mertesacker’s central defensive partner in the Bremen back four, missed out on today’s session: “I didn’t train today because at the end of training yesterday, I suddenly, and without the influence of any other player, began to feel some pain in my toe. I’m on my way to the hospital now to have an examination. I think I should be able to train again as normal tomorrow,” stated the Brazilian.
