There were mixed fortunes at the weekend for Werder Bremen’s Champions League opponents. Panathinaikos Athens could only manage a 1-1 draw at home against Astretas Tripolis, who are currently well adrift in eleventh place in the Greek Super League. Adrian Jesus Bastia was on target for the visitors, whilst there was also only one goal, scored by Antonios Petropolous, for the optically far superior Panathinaikos. With twelve games played in the league, Athens are still nine points off the top, in fourth place, behind league leaders Olympiakos Piraeus.
Inter Milan were decidedly more successful as they beat SCC Naples 2-1 thanks to goals from Ivan Cordoba and Sulley Muntari. The Naples goal was a spectacular effort scored by Ezequiel Ivan Lavetti. Milan’s win sees them remain a clear six points ahead of closest challengers Juventus (4-0 against Reggina) and AC Milan (1-3 defeat in Palermo).
Anorthosis Famagusta were far more convincing as they comfortably beat second from bottom side Atromitos Geroskipou 3-0. The Famagusta goals were scored by Nicos Nicolaou, Giannis Skopelitis and Savio. Anorthosis top the Cypriot Division A table with 28 points ahead of Omonia Nicosia (27 points) and APOEL Nicosia (26 points).
