On Thursday, Werder’s general manager Klaus Allofs confirmed irregularities with salary payments being made to Carlos Alberto by Brazilian club Botafogo: “We have been aware of this situation for some time and have sent numerous letters to the federation and the club to alert them to the clubs obligation regarding the loan deal,” explained Allofs, who coolly answered questions on the topic of a possible early return of Carlos Alberto to Bremen: “He is currently under contract until the summer of 2009. Anything else is very difficult to appraise from here. There is no point in seeking solutions right now that may not be at all necessary.”
At the same time, Allofs remarked on the Brazilian midfielder’s positive development: “All of the things we had hoped for with such a loan deal have transpired. He’s playing successfully, scoring goals and performing well.” Trainer Thomas Schaaf only plans to address the issue of Carlos Alberto shortly before the planned date of his return: “We have a number of other things to work out in the coming weeks and those are the things I’m focusing on right now,” commented Schaaf.
