German national team coach Joachim Löw has nominated two Werder players for the up-coming international against England. Tim Wiese and Per Mertesacker are in the German squad for the friendly international in Berlin on Wednesday, November 19th (kick-off 8:45pm). Wiese is one of two goalkeepers nominated to take part in the prestige clash.
Werder’s vice captain Torsten Frings, who was left out of the squad for the match following a previous discussion with the national team coach, will travel to the German capital for the game as part of the internal team council: “We will be meeting to discuss some issues prior to the game so I will be making the journey to Berlin.”
The omittance of Frings from the squad came as absolutely no surprise in Bremen. Frings himself was aware of his exemption from the squad by Wednesday and took the news sportingly. There are not expected to be any further clashes on the matter with Joachim Löw: “We discussed the issue and I made it clear that I would very much like to continue playing for Germany. As I’ve always said, my target is the 2010 World Cup. I have only myself to blame for being left out after all the trouble of recent weeks and aside from that, the coach wishes to try some new things.”
