Werder Bremen are offering a new service with immediate effect for fans with sight restrictions. The game against Hertha BSC Berlin on Saturday, 01.11.2008 marked the beginning of a test phase at the Weser Stadium. The game was followed for the first time by specialist commentator Florian Reinecke, who describes the incidents on the pitch in very particular style from his unique perspective. The plan for the future is to have ten of these specially equipped places with headphones available for every game. The cost for a ticket for such a place on Bundesliga match days will be €6 per visitor, including one companion.

These tickets will only officially be available following the completion of the test phase, which in this case will take place on the final home match day of the year 2008 against VfL Wolfsburg. Tickets for the game against Wolfsburg and for the first game of 2009, against Arminia Bielefeld, have been available to fans with sight restrictions since 03.11.2008 exclusively on the internet from www.werder.de. Visitors holding such tickets will only be permitted entry on displaying their handicapped identification card.

“Werder are offering this service to meet the demands of the supporters. It is true that we didn’t have many fans with sight restrictions in the stadium last season but from discussions with numerous organisations, we are aware that there is demand for such an offer,” explained handicapped fan representative Wolfgang Ziele: “We are delighted to be able to offer this service.” Bremen’s own society for the blind have reacted very positively to the news of Werder’s innovation for home games.
