Werder striker Claudio Pizarro has incurred a €3,000 fine for his critical comments on referee Deniz Aytekin following Saturday’s Bundesliga clash with VfL Bochum. The decision to fine the Peruvian striker was made by the German Football Federation’s (DFB) supervisory committee in an individual hearing.

The information was announced to the Werder players during training on Tuesday afternoon. The striker has accepted the penalty, which therefore makes it legally binding: "On Saturday I just expressed my opinion but next time I will do so in a different manner," explained Pizarro following the Tuesday session in regret of the strength of his remarks against Aytekin.

On a more positive note on Tuesday, Clemens Fritz, who was substituted having only been introduced at half time in the Champions League against Panathinaikos due to a muscle sinew tear to his left thigh, was back in light training again: "I jogged for 20 minutes today and had no problems. I will go to the doctor now for confirmation and all going well I will be able to increase my training dosage this week. I’m not going to overdo it though," commented the German international.

Brazilian defender Naldo trained today with a bandaged left hand: "I’m in a bit of pain but it’s not really an issue. It’s not a problem, just a precaution," said Naldo.
