Meeting up with old friends is always a pleasure, and that will be just the case on Saturday, 08.11.2008, in the Bundesliga for one particular Green-White, when they take on VfL Bochum. Per Mertesacker is particularly looking forward to the clash in Bochum, when he will come face to face with a former team mate in Christoph Dabrowski.
The Green-Whites lofty defender played together with Dabrowski during his time with Hannover 96. Both spent three years together at the club from Lower Saxony, where together they had the task of preventing their opponents finding a way through to goal: “I’m looking forward to playing in Bochum but I’m particularly looking forward to meeting up with ‘Dabro’. I have a lot of respect for him as a person and a footballer. During my first months as a professional he was a very important contact person for me and we still are in contact from time to time, which I’m very happy about,” said the 24 year old.
However, the final training session on Friday made it very clear that Per Mertesacker is not the only Werder man fired up for Saturday’s game: “It was a very good session. It was perfectly clear to see just how active each individual was,” noted head coach Thomas Schaaf, who was happy to see a positive reaction from his players to the upheaval of the past week: “The important thing is to transfer the content of the training session onto the pitch for tomorrow’s game.”
With the exceptions of Clemens Fritz, Daniel Jensen and Martin Harnik, the coach will have his complete squad at his disposal and has selected the following 18 men for the trip to Bochum: Wiese, Vander – Boenisch, Pasanen, Naldo, Tosic, Baumann, Vranjes, Rosenberg, Diego, Özil, Hunt, Prödl, Sanogo, Frings, Almeida, Pizarro, Mertesacker.
