Frustration! Disheartenment! Disappointment! All of these aspects defined the Werder players at the Wednesday morning training session. On the day after the 0-3 home defeat to Panathinaikos Athens in the Champions League, the dissatisfaction was etched into the faces of all of the Green-Whites.

But the Bremen players hadn’t much time for disappointment and licking their wounds as another important game looms this Saturday. The twelfth match day of the Bundesliga season will see Werder pay a visit to VfL Bochum.

With Hugo Almeida and Peter Niemeyer, there will be two players available to trainer Thomas Schaaf once again who were recently out of action through illness, or respectively injury. Both were back in full team training on Wednesday but there was less fortune for German international Clemens Fritz. The full-back was introduced at half time against Panathinaikos Athens, but was forced out again shortly afterwards due to muscular problems.

Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro was also unable to participate in team training on Tuesday. The front man incurred a bruised foot against Panathinaikos and was only able to partake in a light, solo session: “We won’t know how serious the injury is until we have the chance to x-ray his foot,” stated co-trainer Wolfgang Rolff, who didn’t want to jump the gun on the striker’s condition.
