Clemens Fritz returned to full team training on Sunday. The German international, who missed out on Werder’s last two games due to muscular problems, got through the complete programme without difficulties. After the session, the full-back/winger presented himself as being fired up and ready to go like never before.
The idea of taking an extended break in order to recharge his batteries fully is not something Fritz wishes to consider: “I would have preferred to have gone without this week of rehabilitation training. I’m sick and tired of all the talk. I am well aware of the fact that I haven’t started the season particularly well and had a couple of poor games, but I think that goes for everyone in the team. The same thing has been churned out for weeks now and at some stage you really start to believe that you are in poor physical condition.”
The full back is determined to put all of the negativity behind him now: “I feel good and am looking to force my way back into the team through good performances in training. I’m just looking to the future now, the rest I can leave behind me. The team took its first positive step forward with the win over Hertha and I want to win back my place in order to help the team in moving further up the table.”
Aside from Fritz, there was a full session for all of those who were introduced as substitutes, or weren’t involved, in Saturday’s game. There were no negative physical after-effects of the 5-1 win over Berlin. Thomas Schaaf commented: “No-one is carrying any knocks. Everyone got off the pitch unscathed.”
