Head coach Thomas Schaaf played a major role in the post match analysis. The Werder trainers name cropped up on several occasions as the Bremen players summed up the game: “Today we finally managed to do things exactly as Thomas had told us to,” reported goalkeeper Tim Wiese, and he continued: “We were really aggressive right from the out-set and never allowed Hertha to find their footing in the game.” Naldo added: “We were really solid at the back today because everyone put in the effort, even the strikers. We showed our true face today, just as the trainer had demanded from us.”
Whether this win can prove the start of an upward trend for the Green-Whites is something that remains to be seen. General manager Klaus Allofs made the situation clear in saying: “There are many, many things that we still need to take to heart. We may have won the game clearly but there are still things which need to be improved. We will concentrate and put in a mighty amount of hard work to make up for the points we’ve already dropped. Only if everyone understands that, can today be the day that we began to turn things around.”
Thomas Schaaf, on the other hand, is not focusing too much on the future, and modestly commented: “It was just a win today, nothing more! We have no reason to start thinking about anything else.” The coach later found some words of praise for his team: “The whole team played better, every individual. We started the game well and did a lot of things correctly. Our finishing was better and so was our tackling. It can continue like that!”
